Goodbye 2005
This will be the very last post of 2005 for PolloxNiner. Nostalgic and wistful for the passing year but (hooray) excited for a fresh new start! Lots of great shows, albums, and interviews were of topic in 2005. Lots of bad ones, too. I could go into some elaborate dissertation with a couple of 'Best Of' and 'Worst Of' lists but I fear I'd bore myself to tears. Rather, let's look at 2005 (and years beyond) through music, shall we?
*
To celebrate the New Year proper, I'm unloading a tiny yet random cross-section of music for you. What this means is: (1) you must download within a week or these MP3s will expire, and (2) if you like what you hear, please support these artists and buy the album.
*
Enjoy!

The Music Plays On For You Philip
Wowzers.
40 MP3s - Happy New Year indeed. How big is your music stash anyway?

PROPER!
Nice post. And lots of great mp3s -- fucking Capitol K's "Pillow" and Jeff Hansons's "Hiding Behind the Moon" and the new Gossip songs. It's like an eclectic John Peel collection.

"Treptow" and "On Parade"? What does your music crate look like? Bloody hell, it must be broad pickings.
I'm not so much impressed by all the Sufjan Stevens and Broken Social Scene -- you had the moxie to post Rothko and Beatbox Saboteurs with Bruce Springsteen and Lightning Bolt.
Well done. Nice splice of music.

the new fabric's quite downtempo. nice hearing global communication's getting on with it.

i'm relatively new to the "music scene" but reading different music blogs everyday gives me an idea if what is being listened to and talked about by people.
inevitably, i have noticed that they all pretty much talk about the same bands and musicians. so it's nice to see someone take a leap forward and post songs that are older but bonafide greats. you also posted some yet-to-be-released songs as well. clearly you have a great deal of music knowledge but i like your approach to it. very eclectic is right.
and i can see why you like the music blogs that you do (on the right side of your blog).
thanks and have a great new year.

why r pushing this whole "support artists" thing?
Posted by: | December 30, 2005 at 03:11 PM
Supporting the artist, and not just downloading mp3s from various blogs, is what keeps mp3 bloggers alive and thriving. Lest the IFPI or a label serves up a C&D.
Plus, don't you feel all tingly inside when you know you're supporting artists that do something creative, something that you can take home and enjoy? We just offer a track or two for a sampling -- you do the rest, which means you have to go to Amazon, Insound, to the label or band's website and order it.
If you need more fuel, read this: http://www.mysteryandmisery.com/article/330/moistworks-mp3-blogger-coming-under-fire
Plus, I think you're just being silly for asking. Any legit mp3 blogger will tell you the same thing. Pirated music isn't cool -- and it's not about the quantity of music you have. It's about quality.
Posted by: Sunny | December 30, 2005 at 03:23 PM
Well said Sunny. I think that's what sets the good blogs from the bad blogs. Mp3 blogs try to spread indie music to the masses by creating a venue for their music - and by giving them promotion and publicity. Some labels trust certain bloggers (like Sunny, I'm sure) and send these mp3 bloggers music to post because they realize that it's a good avenue for promoting their music.
It's not to be abused. Besides, what's the use in paying for music, hosting, and blog services and when you're just going to turn around and screw these bands over by irresponsible downloading?
Support the artists. Thanks

if you don't support artists.....then what the fuck are you doing on this blog? get a life.
nicely put sunny.
