It feels strange to be back -- a bit like returning to school
after a fun-filled summer break and realizing your handwriting's gone
to shit. Or maybe it's more akin to waking up from a long restful nap
and not being exactly sure what day it is. Whatever the case, my
headphones are on and here I am, getting back into the thick of things.
My new year's resolutions are very different this year from most years in that most years I don't bother to make any new year's resolutions. It'll all change in 2006. Hmm.

Berlin - "Sex (I'm A...)"
This submerged New Wave synth-pop gem takes us back to 1982 though it would be years later until I would hear it. Singer Teri Nunn admitted that the track was about the hum-drum predictability of her sex life with her then-boyfriend, and her subsequent failed attempts to get him to role-play. What makes this so damn irresistible is its catchy call-and-reponses and unapologetic use of oh-so-'80s synth framework. From their album Pleasure Victim (1982, Geffen). Buy here. For JZ... looking good there.

George Kranz - "Din Daa Daa"
It's true that this song (otherwise known as "Trommeltanz") has been sampled by almost every techno bass producer since its release back in 1984 but with good reason. It's hooky as hell, with its arena-style scats which, if you're listening carefully, mimics the drums in the song. Kranz, a German dance music singer and percussionist, created something of a minor phenomenon with this track -- multiple chart placements, re-issues, remixes, samples, and bootlegs. It was practically the underground club scene's anthem. So where have you heard this recently? Chances are, on the Ying Yang Twin's song "Shake". Buy here. For Mark.

Francisco - "Fits"
I'm dedicating this song to my friend CC because he really knows how to dance the part, and because he adores Italo disco and rightfully so. Francisco (aka Francisco de Bellis) is probably most famliar to most as Jolly Music, the Roman homeboy who remixed Erlend Oye's "Prego Amore" which I posted weeks ago. This great solo debut LP Music Business serves up giant doses of techno, classic house, and lots of funky sex grooves. Buy here. For CC.

O
Because there's care.
Great songs. And now that I know that the Ying Yang Twins sampled Din Daa Daa I'm gonna have to relisten a bit more carefully. I never made the connection before.

Hey, thanks for commenting on my blog. The comments actually mean more now than when I had APES.
I'm starting to get everything squared away for more happenings at relapse...you know, like blogger interviews and other things.
By the way, I'm linking to you and giving you a Hot Bitch rating. Feel free to link back. I would really appreciate it.
