It's nice when little gems pop up in your inbox. Some time ago, a duo from Milwaukee called Codebreaker sent me three tracks.

So it goes like this:
*
Firm believers in the DIY ethic, Codebreaker is Steven and Schwam who've benefited from the grassroots movement of fans and artists alike. They've shared stages with Phoenix, HarMar Superstar, Hot Chip, Radio 4, Out Hud, Cibo Mato, VHS or Beta, Stereo Total... and yet, they remain relatively obscure musicheads. Damn shame.
"Caller" [MP3] is a jaunty electro-funk number that gets a slick lick from Nile Rogers, Rockwell and Murray Head, but more recently Chromeo. It's a story of urban romance (told through vocodered affectations) and with all its elements together, the song is sexy, danceable, and perhaps a little too smooth for its own good. Which is to say that it deserves some rotation at your next party.
Other songs include the futurist-post-punk "What Is This Earth" [MP3] and the nu-electro dance song "Saturn Life" [MP3].
caller makes my hips swivel.

Interesting how they've been paired to play with so many great bands and artists.

Murray Head? MURRAY HEAD! I couldn't believe it, I was listening to "One Night In Bangkok" on the radio today!

One Night In Bangkok! I haven't heard that in YEARS. Takes me waaay back.
I remember the video to that song too... the ginormous chessboard.
