Our Future's Looking Bright

I had this whole other great thing to post about the Scissor Sisters and The Knife -- you would have been so impressed -- but I've decided to ditch it. Sorry to disappoint but in light of hearing new cuts from The Rapture yesterday, I haven't been motivated to listen to anything else. I love it. I really, really, really love it. Very excited about this record. And I truly wish I could share more with you but I can't. But take my word for it -- if you're a fan, it's all so worth the wait. I love it almost more than this. Well, maybe not but still. I never realized just how well Luke and Mattie sing. Sorry, I'm just rambling now. Hard to contain my excitment. Because I can't post any early Rapture tracks, I'll post this instead. You might have heard it before because it's been out there for some time now but believe me, it's well worth listening to again. Really. Have a great weekend!

The Boy And The Beat

The guys from Foreign Islands are recording right now, but Dean and Andy sent me a few early tracks a few days ago. And they're monster. I've been listening to this next song on repeat and on ungodly volume levels. It's awesome because I've got a sub-wolfer thingy under my desk at work so I can feel the bass drum really oomph throughout the floor. I'm pretty sure the guys put a couple of new songs up on their myspace so go check it out.

Speaking of drums, I'm going to sidetrack a little here, if you don't mind. You think you know your friends but then something like last night happens and it blows your mind. My friend Cash never mentioned or alluded to the fact that he plays the drums. So when I saw him dig into it, it was a jaw-dropping moment. Wow, who would have thunk it? One Is Better Than The Other

At my office, the noise level gets insane at times. It's not that we're allowed to play music at work... it's that we're encouraged to do so. We're given speakers and component stereo systems to play whatever we wish. To my left someone is blasting Shakira, to my right someone has the Sugar Hill Gang on repeat, and in the middle is me. Accordingly, behind my desk is an entire box of low pressure foam ear plugs.

So much music and so little time and so much hearing damage. It gets chaotic and blurry so I rely on those specific songs to help clear my head. Yesterday's Mai Lan track is one of those palate cleansing songs -- it's a perennial favorite. So is this next track.

Whoopsy, it's been a while since my last post. But I'm back, and instead of returning with a bang, I thought it'd be better to return with a slow and sexy joint this time around. It's a tune I had on repeat yesterday when we didn't bother to leave the apartment all day (except to pay the delivery guy for our food). It was a day of rest and relaxation. Meanwhile, I got the new Phoenix album this weekend which is better than I expected it to be. United and Alphabetical were such colossal albums that I feared their follow-up wouldn't measure up. The new album, It's Never Been Like That, which streets on May 23 here in the states, is pretty great and I'll bet good money that their live show will be a definite hot ticket. Possibly one of the hottest shows to catch in 2006. So much has already been blogged about Phoenix so I'll spare you the rhetoric. Instead, here are a couple of new songs from the soon-to-release album. And if it's true what they say, Phoenix's singer Thomas Mars and Lost In Translation's director Sophia Coppola are having a baby. Hipster baby, anyone?
